Photography Tutorial: Landscape Photography- Storms/MonsoonMay 14, 2012
See my photos at: www.momentsofnaturephotography.com In this video I talk a little bit about my absolute favorite time to photograph, during the monsoon season when storm are rampant throughout. Capturing lightning is fun (see How to take pictures of lightning) but it is also a great time for capturing sunsets, addressed in this video. There is even a rainbow that shows up near the end of the video.
NYC "Thundersnow" | Snow Storm Still Photo Montage- January 26th, 2011Apr 26, 2012
What a winter we're having here in the NYC metro, and it won't let up! While the initial forecast was calling for around 6 inches of snow here in the NYC area, what we ended up getting was just a *tad* more than that! To make a long story short, the forecast models did not handle this storm well due to several factors and because of this, we ended up getting much more snow than initially forecast. It started during the morning hours of Jan 26th when we had a few hours of heavy snow move through the NYC metro, giving us 4 inches of snow right off the bat. Then came the lull during the afternoon at which time we saw some sleet and freezing rain fall for a period of time. Then, the main shock came when this coastal storm started bombing out off shore bringing very heavy snow to the area between 8pm and 2am. We even had some "thundersnow" which is featured right at the beginning of this video! Another 15 inches of snow fell here in Rego Park, Queens during that time! All in all I measured a storm total of 18 inches here. Insane! I didn't shoot much video of this event but instead opted to do a still photo montage. I decided not to use any audio over the stills and instead will let the photos do the talking. Hope you enjoy! Kluane Lapse; Time lapse photography of Kluane Lake clearing from a storm. Yukon Territory, Canada.May 08, 2012
Time lapse of Kluane Lake and Sheep Mountain after Spring storm. I took over 5400 pictures in a period of 7.5 hours until my cameras batteries died...right before sunset! The pictures were taken from the Kluane Bed and Breakfast near Silver City along the Alaska Highway in Canada's Yukon Territory. I used my Olympus SP-500UZ point-n-shoot controlled via USB with Cam2com to shoot. Quicktime Pro to edit the image sequence into a movie and import the audio. The music is "Dialogue du vent et de la mer" by Debussy, public domain from musopen.com, I trimmed it and edited in a fade out with Audacity. Oh ya, and I borrowed Dougie's tripod. So all in all for my second attempt at time lapse and with a non-pro camera and only $30 in expenses (QTpro) I am feeling pretty darn pleased with myself! Hope you enjoy. No Magpies or Whiskyjacks were harmed during the making of this film. One cat was made anxious...nobody really minded.
